Donald Arthur Hansen, 93 years old, passed away peacefully, after a long illness, surrounded by family on November 4, 2025. He was a lifelong resident of West Springfield, attending West Springfield schools where he was a multi-sport athlete but came to love golf at an early age. After high school Donald began his post-secondary education at Bryant College but left before matriculation to serve honorably in the US Airforce making life-long connections with fellow service members. While in the AirForce he played golf competitively in Europe as a member of the Air Force Golf team. Upon discharge, he returned to complete his degree at Bryant College. He spent much of his career working for the Massachusetts Container Corporation retiring in 2004. Donald took his career very seriously, with a strong work ethic and moral compass. Don's genuine curiosity and caring of those he met led to many friendships. However, Don's lifelong passion was golf. He played frequently, and consistently well into his 80s. He was a gifted teacher and mentor to many in the sport. Don was also active in the West Springfield Lions Club where he served one term as President. Donald was predeceased by his sister Betty Davis of NJ, parents Arthur and Signe (Nystedt) Hansen of West Springfield. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 68 years, Joan (Griswold) Hansen; son Steven and his wife Denise of Groton; grandchildren Kirsten and Seth Hansen; and a great grandson Flynn Hilgeman. Donald will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. Services will be private and have been entrusted to TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME.
