Donald Hickle Obituary

Donald Hickle, 83, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. Born on May 18, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa, Donald lived a life defined by service-to his country, his community, and his family.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Donald served with distinction from 1961 to 1984, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. His military career included service during the Vietnam War and left an indelible mark on those who served alongside him. After retiring from the Navy, Donald continued his commitment to public service through roles with SAIC and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He also worked as a field technician for the NFL, bringing his trademark dedication and precision to every endeavor. Donald's impact extended far beyond his professional accomplishments. A pillar of the Lakeside community, he was known for his tireless volunteerism and leadership. He served as President of the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce as well as both the Optimist Society and the El Capitan Stadium Association. His passion for youth development was evident in his long-standing role as leader of Boy Scout Troop 45 and in his enthusiastic support of local events like the annual rodeo and The Lakeside Junior Fair- where he faithfully weighed every pig each Mother's Day.
He found joy in simple pleasures like golf and fishing but was most fulfilled when giving back. Whether mentoring young people or organizing community events, Donald brought warmth and humor to everything he did.
Those who knew him will fondly remember how he used handdrawn illustrations to explain ideas-a unique touch that reflected both his creativity and desire to connect with others. Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Lucille E. Hickle; sons Jim Hickle, Jon Hickle, and Jeff Hickle; daughters Shellie Currier and Candi Mc- Laughlin ; fifteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons Sam Currier and Larry Reese; great-grandson Cody Reese; sister Mary Hickle; brothers Ron Hickle and Tom Hickle; father Auston Hickle; stepmother Louise Hickle.
Donald's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through mentorship, friendship, and unwavering community spirit.
His absence leaves a profound void in Lakeside-a place he loved deeply and served wholeheartedly. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Don, you were the best! I loved having you and Lucille over for Superbowl! You both handled the pools and Lucille made the best stuffed jalapeno appetizers. You were loved by so many! The Optimists loved and appreciated your devotion to the youth of lakeside! I've thought of you often over the years. Damn covid ended our Superbowl celebration but damn, my first thought was " whose gonna do the pools now that Don's in Texas?" From bbqs, to spaghetti dinners, fish frys... wow, you were always there!
And Lucille, God bless you for standing strong and tall, such a legacy of devotion and love... hard as it became. Wish I could give you both a hug... sincerely Bill and Debbie Schadt.
