Donald Ibbitson, 93, of West Warwick, formerly of Providence, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. He was the loving husband of the late Dorothy M. (Campbell) Ibbitson. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Kilroy) Ibbitson.
He is survived by his beloved children, Patricia A. Mendillo of Cranston, Kathleen Passarelli (Nicholas) of Cranston, Barbara J. Moran (Richard) of Johnston, Stephen A. Ibbitson (Cristina) of Holliston, MA and Marilyn Ibbitson (Robert Ayala) of West Warwick, his sister, Catherine Ibbitson of Johnston, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and his devoted friend, Barbara Saunders.
Donald proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and went on to work for the City of Providence, and then as a Mail Handler for the United States Postal Service. Donald was a former parishioner of St. Anthony Parish in Providence where he served as an usher, actively volunteered to lead fundraising efforts for the church and school, was an administrator of the St. Anthony Bowling League, and longtime umpire for the Silver Lake Olneyville Little League. He later became a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in West Warwick. An avid sports fan, Donald enjoyed skiing, golfing, bowling, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and a good day at the beach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 11:00AM at St. Joseph Church, 854 Providence Street, West Warwick. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
Visitation will be held prior to the Funeral Mass from 9:00AM-10:00AM at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: American Heart Association PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or St. Joseph Church, 854 Providence Street, West Warwick, RI 02893.
