“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 5:8
Donald O. Lambert, affectionately known as “Donnie,” left this world on February 24, 2026, in Elgin, Illinois, at the age of 73. Born on April 1, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, Donnie embodied a spirit as vibrant as the day he was born—an April Fool’s Day baby whose sense of humor and genuine love for life touched countless hearts.
Donnie dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving others, notably as a member of the Bellwood Police Department from 1982 to 2003. His commitment to public service was evident in every interaction, defined by his strong sense of justice and unwavering integrity. Furthermore, he served his country proudly in the United States Navy, a testament to his deep-rooted bravery and dedication.
As a family man, Don was outgoing, loving, and understanding—a pillar of strength for his loved ones. He shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Gloria Lambert, and together they found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Whether it was tending to their garden or embarking on outdoor adventures, Donnie thrived in nature, making cherished memories as he hiked, camped, fished, and biked with his beloved grandchildren.
Donnie is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria Lambert; daughter, Joy Nickolson and husband Eric; son, Chris Lambert and wife Julie; grandchildren, Nathan and Jonathan Thurmond, Logan, Olivia, and Layla Lambert; and his sisters, Shirley Lambert, Carol Teague, and Janice Curry. He also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews, each holding special memories of a man who deeply cared for his family and friends.
In the company of his family and friends, Donnie’s playful personality shone brightest. As a funny prankster, he had an innate ability to bring laughter to those around him, creating a joyful environment where all felt welcomed and loved. His faith served as the foundation that guided him throughout his life, providing him with strength and resilience.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alma Lambert; his brother, Charles Lambert; his cousin, Ophelia “Bunny” Belser; and his niece, Lisa Lambert. While they grieve his passing, they find solace in knowing that Donnie’s spirit lives on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Visitation will be held on March 3, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels in Roselle, Illinois. A funeral service will take place on March 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Peoples Community Church in Glen Ellyn, followed by interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, at 1:30 PM.
Donald O. Lambert will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and light will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
