Donald Liberty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Methuen Family Funeral Home on Sep. 30, 2025.
Donald H. Liberty, 74, a longtime resident of Methuen, passed away peacefully after a period of declining health at Holy Family Hospital on Monday, September 29, 2025. Born May 2, 1951, in Acushnet, MA, and raised in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Armand J. Liberty and Esther M. (Nadeau) Ellis. Don proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, completing training at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC. He served in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970. His time in the military was a source of great pride and shaped the discipline and dedication he carried throughout his life. Following his service with the Marines, Don worked as a tractor-trailer driver for Mayflower, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. A true jack-of-all-trades, he also worked as a fishing boat captain in California and as a computer technician in Oklahoma, in addition to being a skilled handyman. He was always willing to lend a hand and took pride in everything he did. Don was the devoted husband of the late Barbara A. (Dunn) Liberty. He is lovingly remembered by his stepdaughters, Michelle Giacobbe and her former husband, Brian Laskey, Toni and her husband, Daniel Gibbs, and Christine and her husband, Steven Murphy. Don was the proud "Pepe" to Kylie Laskey, Evan Shanahan, Daniel, Matthew, and Brayden Murphy-all of whom brought him great joy. He also leaves behind a brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. Don's legacy is one of strength, service, and love for his family. His life will be honored and remembered by all who knew him. Semper Fi. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday, October 5, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Methuen Family Funeral Home, formerly the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Monica Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 130 N. Lowell Street, Methuen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald's honor to the American Heart Association via www.heart.org.
