Donald Lighty

Donald Lighty was born August 24, 1957 in Darlington County, South Carolina a son of Jeannette Williams Spann and Julius Jackson Lighty. He departed this life on May 12, 2010 in Riverdale, Georgia after an illness.

      He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated from Butler High School in 1974. He later moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his wife, the former Mae Alice Best. He was employed for over 20 years as a warehouse worker for Supreme Foods in Atlanta, Georgia.

     Donald loved the Lord and he loved his family. He took pride in whatever he did and was an inspiration to those he met. His enthusiasm for life, his love of people and his commitment to his family are things that others will remember about him.

     Surviving to cherish the memory of Donald Lighty and maintain his legacy in addition to his mother, Jeannette Spann of Hartsville, SC, are his wife, Mae Alice Lighty of Jonesboro, GA; four sons, Rodriquez Lucas of Baltimore, MD, Donyell Mack of Hartsville, SC, Donald Best, Jr. and DeAngelo Lighty both of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Sharita N (William) Best and LaKeya (Altavius) Lighty both of Atlanta, GA; three brothers, Joseph (Dora) Lighty and Christopher L (Trimicia) Spann both of Hartsville, SC and Derrick (Jackie) Spann of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Barbara Spann of Hartsville, SC and Sharon (Christopher) Marcano of Monroe, NC; eleven grandchildren, Travion, Montreion, Ja’Niyah, William, Jr., Maconna, Davion, Taylor, Kamaria, Noah, Dontez, Shyiell, numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, other relatives, and very dear friends.
