Donald E. Lutz

NECEDAH - Donald E. Lutz, age 83, of Necedah, Wis., was called from this earth on February 14, 2026. He passed away at home with loved ones after a battle with dementia. Don was born in New Lisbon the son of David and Louise (Yund) Lutz, born the middle child of nine.

He attended New Lisbon schools where he spent many hours at track team practice and going to district and state competitions. Don's primary employment was 37 years for the Juneau County Highway Department where he loved working outdoors and being with nature. After retirement Don drove part time semi for Lawrence Transportation.

Don was united in marriage to Sharon Wargowsky at St. James Lutheran Church on October 24, 1970. They built a home in rural Necedah where they have resided for the past 55 years. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Kanda Vopelak of Necedah, Wis., and Tanya Sankey of Jacksonville, Fla.

Don enjoyed outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, aviation lessons, raising chickens, helping 4H children and these were all more enjoyable once he finally got his boy – his grandson, Mason to share them with.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harry and Charles, sisters, Nettie (Ed), Jeanette, his twin sister, Donna Jean (Jim), and twin sisters, Diane (Robert) and Joanne.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, two daughters, Kanda (David) Vopelak, and Tanya (Josh) Sankey; grandchildren, Taylor Lisiecki and Mason Vopelak; great-granddaughter, Briar, and another great-granddaughter due in June; a brother, Richard, sisters-in-law, Pat Lutz, Velma Lutz, brother-in-law, Larry (Jean) Wargowsky, and sister-in-law, Diane Darnell; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Emplify Health, St. Croix Hospice, Pastor Roger Erdman and Amanda Ristick (fiancé to Mason Vopelak) for the love, compassion and support shown to Don and our family during this time.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Necedah, Wis. Pastor Roger Erdman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bayview Cemetery, Necedah, Wis. Family and friends are invited for visitation Friday, March 6, 2026, from 9 a.m. to the time service at the church.
