Obituary of Donald Paul Madden

Donald Paul Madden, age 93, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children, on November 8, 2025. Born on April 21, 1932, Don lived a long and blessed life defined by faith, family, service, and love.

Don was the devoted husband of 61 years to his beloved wife, Diane Marie Madden. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in mutual respect, joy, and an unshakeable partnership. He was the loving father of four children: Karen M. (Dominick) Amanti of Dwight, James K. Madden of St. Charles, Peggy K. (Peter) Witwicki of Midlothian, VA, and John J. (Nancy) Madden of Brookfield. Don cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, who brought him endless happiness: Jessica, Ashley, and Nicholas Amanti; Samuel, Maxwell, and Jack Witwicki; and Connor and Evan Madden. He was also the dear brother of Dorothy (Florian) Gay, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

At the age of 19, Don proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1954. His service took him to Germany and Africa, experiences that shaped his character, broadened his world, and deepened his appreciation for home and family.

After returning to civilian life, Don courted and married Diane and built a successful career with Fisher Body (General Motors), all while raising his family in Bolingbrook, Illinois. He was a hardworking man who never hesitated to put others before himself and whose quiet strength and steady guidance provided a foundation for those he loved.

Upon retirement, Don and Diane enjoyed 22 wonderful years in Arizona, embracing the warm weather, new friendships, traveling, and an active lifestyle before returning to Illinois in 2017 to be closer to family.

Don had many interests that brought him joy: volunteer policeman, woodworking, bowling, singing in the church choir, and participating as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Yet above all, Don was a devoted Catholic whose faith guided every chapter of his life. His greatest pride and deepest love were reserved for his wife and children, whom he cherished beyond measure.

Don will be remembered for his kindness, humility, sharp sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, who are forever grateful for the example he set and the love he gave so freely.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
