He served his country with distinction during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1971 after faithful and honorable service that spanned multiple decades and continents. Some of these travels included Japan, Germany, Korea, Vietnam and Rome, Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star along with a number of other distinguished decorations and citations. Donald was a life member of the American Legion and Amvets.

Born June 3, 1927 at home in Teboville, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Lydia Marlowe.

On December 14, 1957, Donald married the love of his life, Yasuko Marlowe, (Masubuchi), in Tokyo, Japan, a union that lasted through decades of shared adventures and quiet moments. Donald, I will always remember you as someone who held a special place in my heart. The many years we shared our family birthdays together by the pond, hunting camp or down at Papa and Shasha's. I have many fond memories of you and Yasuko. The chicken curry was always a staple. Her bright smile and little laugh. You, another tootsie pop giver, a grocery bag filled with goodies for all the kids was sure to be on your passenger seat awaiting my hands. You- saying "Jelly, pass these out to all the kids. "
When I got my first teaching job I asked you for your address so my second grade kiddos could write you a Veterans Day letter. I looked forward to that moment every year. My second grade students were always pleasantly surprised by your so gracious check, with a typewriter letter stating we need to cash this check and have a pizza party, and that we always did. My favorite Veteran to celebrate.
I love you like my own Grandfather. May you and Yasuko be reunited. <3 Love you always, Jelly (Angelica)
