It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Stadler Meyer, age 84, of Shawano, Wisconsin, announces that he has passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Unity Hospice Facility in De Pere surrounded by family.
Don was born on February 22, 1941, in Sharon, Pennsylvania to the late Charles and Grace Meyer. He moved with his family to Cecil, Wisconsin at the age of four. He attended grade school in Cecil and graduated from Shawano High School in 1959, where he met and dated his future wife, Ileen, during band class, and eventually was united in marriage to Ileen on June 2, 1962, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano, Wisconsin.
Don furthered his education at the Milwaukee School of Business before beginning his professional career. He was employed with Goers Oldsmobile from 1962 to 1966 and then worked for ANR Pipeline, where he dedicated over three decades of service until his retirement in 1999.
In 1987, Don and Ileen purchased and lovingly remodeled their dream home on Shawano Lake, where he cherished the changing seasons and the many joys of fishing, boating and snowmobiling which is what lake life brought.
Don was a devoted sports enthusiast and could often be found cheering on the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers. He was also well known in the community for his love of participating in softball and gaining special friendships with the K&G Sportsland, Choice Beer Sales, and Bad Habit softball teams he was part of for over 50 years. Don remained active well into his eighties, still playing senior softball and basketball.
Don and Ileen enjoyed the role of being snowbirds by going to Florida and Hawaii during the offseason since the early 2000's. Don enjoyed the beach life and then cherished his "Old Fashioned" cocktail hours after their day on the beach.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ileen; children: Wendy Maes, Dawn (Roger) Schmitz, and Bob (Jamie) Meyer; grandchildren: Jerod Maes, Ryan (Brittanie) Maes, Tyler (Emily) Raymaker, Jessica (Logan) Majerus, Delaney (Luke) Servais, Elliott (Lauren) Meyer, step grandchildren: Kristina (Michael) Sullivan, and Brandon Schmitz; two great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren and one more great-grandchild expected early in 2026. He also is survived by four nieces and two nephews. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Caroline Meyer, Dorothy (Doug) Dorger, and brother-in-law, Doug Blank.
He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, his brother Chuck Meyer, son-in-law Doug Maes, and sister-in-law Sally Blank.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday November 29, 2025, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano, with Pastor Andrew Zobel officiating. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 9:30 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. James Lutheran Church and School or the
charity of your choice.
Don will be remembered for his devotion to his family who he loved very much. He was the foundation of the family, a hero in the eyes of his children, had a zest for life, and made a positive impact on all who knew him.
The Meyer family would also like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors from Aurora Cancer Center in Green Bay, Froedert Cancer Center in Milwaukee, and Unity Hospice Facility in De Pere for the tremendous care they provided to Don.
