Donald Moxley Obituary

Donald Ogle "Turdle" Moxley, 88, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the Residences at Park Place in Seneca, South Carolina.

Born in Mt. Airy, Maryland, he was the son of Eldridge and Barbara Moxley. After graduating from Mt. Airy High School at 17, Don joined the U.S. Air Force, serving 22 years. His career included overseas tours, a Vietnam combat assignment as a Loadmaster on the AC-47 "Spooky" gunship, flying 112 combat missions and 513 combat flight hours and more than 5,000 flight hours on the C-47, AC-47, C-130E, and C-141 aircrafts. His decorations included six Air Medals, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He retired in 1975 to his hometown of Mt. Airy, MD.

Don was married to Irene Neumann Moxley for 13 years until her passing in 1979, and later to Ann Marie Serkiz, his wife of more than 40 years. Known for his passion for military history, gardening, and do-it-yourself projects, Don filled his days with restoring an authentic 1951 Willys M-38 Korean War Jeep, tending an impressive garden, and enjoying morning coffee with friends.

He is survived by his sister, Betty Diane Stover; daughter, Tina Hawse; sons, Fred Moxley and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Rick Moxley (Polly); stepchildren, Karen Graham (Willie), Steve Serkiz (Linda), and John Serkiz; and grandchildren, Trevor, Evan, and Irene Moxley. Donald Moxley
