Donald E. "Murf" Murphy Jr.

Dansville- Donald E. Murphy Jr. "Murf" age 82 passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon January 18, 2026, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after being stricken at home on Saturday night.

He was born in Hornell on December 18, 1943, the son of the late Donald Elbert and Irene (Hurd) Murphy Sr. He was also predeceased by a brother-in-law Jack McTarnaghan and a sister-in-law Helen (Ray) Bertalon. On October 17, 1964, he married Sharon Jones Murphy who survives.

Don was a welding inspector at the former Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in Dansville. He was a member of the IAM and the Twenty-Five Year Club at Foster Wheeler. He was a long-time active member of the James H. Jackson Hose Company of the Dansville Fire Department where he also served on the Oktoberfest Committee. He was also an antique car enthusiast and member of the Southern Tier Car Club attending many shows with Sharon in their 1967 Ford Galaxy 500. He was also a long-term collector of marbles.

Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-one years are son Jeffery (Carolyn) Murphy, and daughter Stephanie Murphy (Rob Bowman), grandchildren Megan, Katelyn, and Geoffery Murphy and Peter Jacobs, a sister Karen (Larwrence) Kovach, a sister in-law Sondra McTarnaghan, and several nieces and nephews.
