Donald Niel Noteboom, age 84, was taken home peacefully to his Lord on January 12, 2014. Don was born to William C. and Hilda (Elder) Noteboom on May 24, 1929 in Lynden, WA as the penultimate son of the five siblings. His first grade year, Don attended Riverside School and then graduated in the Class of 1946 from Lynden High School. From there, he graduated with honors from Washington State College (now University). He married his high school classmate, Henrietta Polinder, on August 30, 1950. They started farming on the Nolte Road and began raising and showing Brown Swiss cattle at the Northwest Washington Fair. Don then took over the Noteboom family farm on the Noon Road and was involved in 4-H, DHIA, Lynden Christian Rest Home Board and several agricultural committees for many years. He was an avid sports fan, loved to read, play Soduko and meet weekly with his classmates "the 46ers" during his retirement years. Don attended First Christian Reformed Church. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Henrietta Noteboom; his children Dan (Terri) Noteboom, JoAnn (Hank) Roorda, Gayle (Carl) VanWeerdhuizen; his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: David (Melissa), Isaiah and Ethan VanWeerdhuizen, Mark (Anna) and Dani June VanWeerdhuizen, Ria VanWeerdhuizen, Chase VanWeerdhuizen; Jamie Noteboom, Danny Noteboom, Angie (Eric) Archambault, Jason Noteboom; Tom (Heather) Roorda, Stephanie (Andrew) and Elias Rennie, Dawn (Matthew) and Payton Chastagner, Gretchen Roorda; brothers, Jim (Dorothy) Noteboom and Bill Noteboom; brothers-in-law, Bud Neevel, Gerrit Polinder; sister-in-law Joanne (Pete) Dykstra and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Don is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jean (brother-in-law Dick) Nowadnick and Linda Neevel; sister-in-law Velma Noteboom; and great-grandchild Elle Anna VanWeerdhuizen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 11:00 am at First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St. in Lynden. Burial will precede in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to: First Christian Reformed Church Building Fund or Hospice of Whatcom County, 2901 Squalicum Pkwy., Bellingham, WA 98225.
