Donald James “Oscar” Doro, age 89, passed away on March 12, 2023. Oscar was born on August 5, 1933 to Paul and Valeria (Zielinski) Doro. Don lived in Menasha with his parents, brother Kenneth and sister Elizabeth. He attended St. Mary Elementary School and graduated from Menasha High School. He played with the Menasha High School baseball team and after high school he played for the Menasha Falcons.
Oscar served his country with pride and honor as a member of the United States Air Force.
He was a devoted sports fan of many teams, including the Brewers, Bucks, Badgers, and Packers. He loved watching “a good ball game!” and did not hold back on his opinions of the sports commentators.
He valued his sense of style, and was passionate about his fun and festive button-up shirts. His special fashion sense brought a smile to the faces of those around him. Oscar will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but we take comfort in knowing that he lived a rich and fulfilling life, full of love, laughter, and meaningful connections.
Oscar attended St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Neenah, WI for many years. When Oscar could no longer attend St. Gabriel, because of physical limitations, he watched Bishop David Ricken preside Mass on TV on Sundays, as he always had a special fondness for Bishop Ricken. His Catholic faith kept him strong until the very end when he was called by His Lord to his eternal home.
Donald is survived by his brother-in-law Donald Schneider as well as many friends including Jack Zulkowski, Dave Neubauer and Heidi Selch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kenneth and sister Elizabeth.
There will be a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 11:30 AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 900 Geiger Street in Neenah with Fr. Bob Kollath officiating. There will be a visitation at St. Gabriel on Wednesday before the Mass from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Interment will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery of Menasha at a later date.
Don wishes to thank his guardian Rachel as well as Country Villa Assisted Living in Freedom for their tender care and compassion.
A special thanks to the staff and nurses of Moments Hospice, especially Ellen and caregivers Rick and Tanya for the excellent care given to Oscar as well.
