Donald Owen, 89, of Marshall, Minnesota, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at his home in Marshall, Minnesota. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2024, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Following military honors, a reception for attendees will be in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service, from 10 – 11 a.m. on Monday, also at the church.
Donald Eugene Owen was born on March 29, 1934, in Mankato, Minnesota. He was the son of Lyle and Orvilla (Norris) Owen. He attended and graduated from Pemberton High School and went on to further his education at the Mankato Vo-Tech before enlisting in the United States Army in 1955. He honorably served his country in Germany before his discharge in December of 1957.
On June 28, 1958, Don was united in marriage to Carol Balzer and the couple made their home in Pemberton, St. Peter, Deephaven, Fergus Falls, Vesta, and Marshall, Minnesota. They spent 19 winters in Texas and shared over 65 years of marriage. To this union, five children were born: Kristen, Karen, Kyle, Kimberly, and Kevin.
Don made family a priority, displaying it as a loving and caring husband, son, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His enjoyments in life included stock car racing, hunting, fishing, and attending his children's and grandchildren's various activities. Don was known to be an avid card player, always looking for the next good game.
He is survived by his loving family including wife, Carol Owen; four children, Kristen (Scott) Eickman of Brooklyn Park, Karen Owen of Marshall, Kim Boettcher (friend, Jim) of Merton, WI, Kevin (Erin) Owen of Tyler; 16 grandchildren, Andrew (Alli) Eickman, Matthew (Monica) Eickman, Philip (Karina) Eickman, Stephen Eickman, Katherine Eickman, Elizabeth Eickman, Tony Isaackson, Tyler (Ashley) Isaackson, Alyssa (Sam) Isaackson, Aaron (Mariah) Owen, Zachary (Lisa) Boettcher, Brianna (Kyle) Crider, Mandy Anderson-Owen, Thor Owen, Ellee Owen, Ashley Owen, Riley Owen; 14 great-grandchildren, Malakai, Athalia, Jezebel, William, Rosalia, Adalynn, Anthony, Madden, Elijah, Noah, Pearl, Brynnley, Boston, Jiraiya, and another on the way; sister, Beverly Engel; brother, Dale Owen; sisters-in-law, Shirley Owen, Darlene Owen; brother-in-law, Charles Balzer; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Kyle Owen; parents; parents-in-law; brothers, Dean Owen, David Owen; one brother-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Prairie Home Hospice or Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org).
