Donald Tillman "Donnie" Ray

Donald "Donnie" Tillman Ray, age 82, passed away on February 5, 2026. He was born March 26, 1943, in Wake County, to the late George Dewey Ray and Lillian Davis Ray. Donnie enjoyed his lifelong passion for farming. He was born to farm. It was part of his identity. Very few places he'd rather be than on a tractor. It grounded him.

Donnie is survived by his daughter, Terry Ray Simpson and husband Jeff; grandsons: Matthew Scott Simpsom, Tyler Ray Simpson; sister, Margarite Watkins.

He also leaves behind his fierce protector and companion, Buddy Ray, his loyal chihuahua.

In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara Watkins Ray; and brother George Rocher Ray.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, 3417 Rolesville Road, Wendell.

The family will receive friends and relatives immediately following the service, in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery fund.
