Dr. Donald Edward Scharfenberger Sr.

DR. DONALD EDWARD "DON" SCHARFENBERGER, SR., 86, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Dr. Scharfenberger was a dentist who served his community for over fifty years. He was a 1957 graduate of St. Xavier High School and attended Bellarmine and University of Louisville where he was a 1965 graduate of U of L Dental School. He was past president of the Lions Club in Jeffersontown; a member of the Louisville Dental Association; Kentucky Dental Association; American Dental Association; was past president of the Louisville Dental Society and Kentucky Dental Association and was a member of the International and American College of Dentistry. He was an avid U of L fan and loved playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Catherine Rottman Scharfenberger; his sister Dorothy Reedy and brother Ernest Scharfenberger.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 63 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Scharfenberger; his son, Dr. Donald Edward "Ed" Scharfenberger, Jr. (Deena); daughters, Betsy Shelburne; Katie Bonn (Chris) and Mary Ann Taylor (Anthony); grandchildren; Dustin and Josh Hall; Paige and Nick Scharfenberger; Sebastian (Sarah), Reed and Haleigh Taylor; and Christopher, Caroline and Jillian Bonn; and his sister, Cathy Corzine.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 9608 Sue Helen Drive, with burial in St. Edward Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 -8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home – Jeffersontown, 10600 Taylorsville Road.
