Doc was a real inspiration to me. He always had time to listen to listen to my compositions and give me good advice. He told me "Don't just play he drums keep learning and writing. When I had questions about microtonal music, he directed me to the Harry Partch Ensemble at UCLA and even called the director, Danlee Mitchell, for me.
A life-changing guy. I'm glad I got to thank him about 10 years ago

As Don´s life partner, I learned to love and be loved by the strongest, kindest person I had ever known!! And that love will never end!! We were married for 69 years, and as friends, while in frequent contact, for 6 years prior to marriage! I am forever grateful for Don´s love and patience!! Donna Simpson

Doc Simpson was my music teacher for Marching Band and Symphonic Band while I was at Dorsey HS (69-72). He was a masterful musician and teacher. We played music that was complex and beautiful; my best friend and I participated in duet competitions, earning the best scores. Doc made the Band room a place of support and safety. He could joke around, but the moment he needed to, Doc could get us into line with a look or a word. I cherish those memories.
