Donald Joseph Vizard, 81, of Galesburg, died Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Don was born August 16, 1940 in Galesburg, Illinois to Paris D. and Margaret (Hennessy) Vizard.
Don worked at Davis Food Store from 1960 to 1971, Galesburg Mental Health from 1971 to 1985, and Knox Office Equipment, now Medical Software Specialists from 1985 until his retirement in 2003.
Don is survived by a brother, Ed (Ginny) Vizard of Minneapolis, MN; and sisters, Rita Azukas of Kissimmee, FL and Mary (Richard) Barthel of Peoria, IL; as well as his nieces and nephews: Liz (Bill Gaudelli) Azukas and Alex, Mike Azukas, John (Natalie Dale) Vizard and Aleeta, Katie (Chris Brunsberg) Vizard, Anne Barthel, James (Dianna) Barthel and Olivia and Mia. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim; an infant brother John; and his brother-in-law, John Azukas.
Don was the glue that kept the family connected with his many phone calls to cousins and hosting family reunions at the house. He was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Galesburg.
Special thank you to Don's Doctor, Dr. Srini, for his excellent care and friendship to the family throughout the years.
Visitation will be 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Galesburg. The funeral mass will follow the visitation. Father Matthew Hoelscher will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choosing.
