Donald West Obituary

Mr. Donald Duncan West, Sr., age 93, of Rome, GA, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Mr. West, son of the late Ashburn Taylor West and the late Lela Mae Duncan West, was born in Keytesville, Missouri on May 14, 1932. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Palmer West.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering, retired from General Electric, and served as head of operations for the construction of Redmond Park Hospital.

An avid pilot and licensed A&P mechanic, he served as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol, was a member of various veteran organizations, a lifelong ham radio operator, a Master Mason, and aided youth through Junior Achievement U.S.A.

He is survived by his son Donald D. West, Jr.; his daughters Robin W. Shearer and Sandi West; his four grandchildren and his four great grandchildren.

A memorial visitation to celebrate Mr. West's life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 3:00pm until 5:00pm, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel.
