Donald Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service - Charlotte on Dec. 1, 2025.
Mr. Donald Terry Williams, 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, with his devoted family by his side. A native Charlottean, he was the son of the late Richmond W. Williams and Ethel Poteat Williams. Don was born on May 31, 1941, at Mercy Hospital. He graduated from the old Harding High School and attended Charlotte College, now known as UNC Charlotte.

Don was united in matrimony to Rita Flowe Williams on January 25, 1963. They met in high school and married after graduation. They were together for almost 70 years. They spent their lives raising their three daughters, instilling in them the importance of their faith in God, love of family, education, and self-reliance.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, and traveling, but most of all loved his time spent with family-Friday nights at Lineberger's Fish Camp, annual beach trips to Litchfield Beach, South Carolina, picnics in the North Carolina mountains, and family gatherings, especially with his triplet grandchildren.

Don retired as Vice President of Yandle-Witherspoon Supply, Inc., after more than 50 years in the heating and air conditioning industry.

His love for humanity was shown in his kindness to others, assistance to those in need, and his contagious sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Rev. E. Vaudry Williams and Wayne Roger Williams.

His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children, Andrea (David) Brown, Donna (Todd) Ellington, and Candice (Jack) Redhead; and his grandchildren, Mackenzie Grace Ellington, Katie Elizabeth Ellington, and Christian Michael Ellington, all of Charlotte; plus a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on December 12, 2025, at Belk Chapel at Queens University of Charlotte, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memory and Movement Charlotte and Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster.

Don's family wants to extend their gratitude for the care he received from Dr. Charles Edwards and the staff at Memory and Movement Charlotte; Dr. Jimmy Adcock and the staff at Novant First Charlotte Physicians; the staff at The Ivey; Mary Beth Hill, RN, and Via Health Partners Palliative Care; and, in particular, his former caregivers Tierra Washington and Violet.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
