Dr. Donald D. Worcester

STERLING - Dr. Donald D. Worcester, age 80, died Saturday, February 11th, 2017 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling. Dr. Worcester was born on November 1st, 1936 in Pontiac, Michigan. The son of Donald H. and Dorothy (Bowers) Worcester. He married his wife of 55 years, Donna J. Flint on June 10, 1960 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She preceded him in death on September 17th, 2015. Donald earned his B.A. at Albion College in Albion, Mich. and his M.D. at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He served his country in the U.S. Navy (Naval Reserve Medical Corps), Charleston, South Carolina from 1963 to 1965 during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. After completing his residency in several hospitals in Michigan and Minnesota, he was a Staff Physician at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit MI., until he came to Sterling, IL as a Pediatric Physician of the Sterling-Rock Falls Clinic from 1973 to 1999 where he became well known and regarded in the Sauk Valley. Those left to honor his memory include three sons, Michael (Melissa) Worcester of Grapevine, Texas, John (Lori) Worcester of Sterling and William Worcester of Dixon; one step-brother, Dr. Jack (Bonnie) Thorne of Broomfield, Colo.; three grandchildren, Clarissa, Joshua and Christian Worcester. Dr. Worcester was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy L. Bowers and Donald H. Worcester, two brothers, Franklin G. Worcester and John B. Worcester (MIA Vietnam 10-19-65). He had a passion for playing Tennis and was an avid book reader. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 3:00 Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. Funeral service will be held at 3:00PM Saturday with Reverend Jeff Coester of First Congregational Church, Sterling. Private family arrangements will be held at a later date.
