Donald Lee York
Sept. 28, 1946 - Sept. 8, 2023
MADISON - Donald Lee York, age 76, passed away surrounded by family that loved him on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the V.A. Hospital, after a one-year battle with cancer that he fought with all he had. He was born on September 28, 1946, in Madison, the son of Riley and Dorothy (Krier) York.
Donald joined the Army in October of 1963. After proudly serving his country, he would work as an autobody and damage appraisal. He always worked hard and took pride in his accomplishments. In 1987, he married Peggy Maly. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and motorcycles. Then came the grandchildren that meant the world to him. When not spending time with them he was bragging and telling stories to anyone that would listen. He was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. They enjoyed his quick wit and he appreciated every one of them.
Donald is survived by his wife, Peggy York; children: Tonya (Brian) Delapp, Ken (Kelly) Maly, Carl (Shannon) Maly, Brady Maly, and Shane York. He is also survived by his little dog, Cooper, who never left his side, and misses him already.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters: Anna May Winters, Ina Campbell, and Eva Miller.
The family would like to thank the V.A. Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion through his illness.
Private graveside services are being planned for his family.
