Donna Barnes Obituary
In July of 1970, Donna married the love of her life, Oby. After living in Georgia for a short while, they moved to Burlington and started their family. They had two children, Carey and Scelee. As a family, they loved to go fishing and camping. Donna and Oby loved to compete in fishing tournaments together.
Donna worked various jobs over the years, but was most excited about buying Sound Center with her husband in 1987. On the same day they signed, Oby passed away. Donna held onto their dream, and continued owning and operating Sound Center for many years to follow. This became a hangout spot for the high schoolers in town, where she employed many of them. In 1999, Donna began working at the prison and did for many years. She was a favorite of the prisoners, because she was just as tough as they were.
She loved all things Nebraska Cornhuskers, reading, solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, and doing cross stitch. Her favorite way to spend her time was with her grandchildren, cracking jokes and pulling pranks on all of them.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Oby Barnes, her mother and father, William and Mildred Peters, her sister Sandra Lord, and her nephew Eric Richardson.
Donna is survived by her son Carey Barnes, wife Pia, and children Lexi Frye (Samuel Frye), Jaxon, and Cooper. Her daughter Scelee Blake, and children Breanna, Kaylie, Toby, and Elizabeth. Her nephew's wife Kristine Richardson, and children Mitchell (Shalynn), Justine Fecht (Anthony), and Garrett. Her niece, Kim Richardson. Her nephew Delbert Richardson, son Shane Richardson.
Donna will be remembered and missed with many loving memories.
A Memorial service is being held on October 11, 2025 at First Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Burlington, Co at 3:00 pm with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Burlington, CO.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Burlington V.F.W. Post 6491.
