Donna Ruth Benson

Donna Ruth Benson, born Donna Ruth Dougherty of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on October 23, 2025, at 88 yrs old. The cause was complications from colon cancer.

A celebration of life will be held at 12pm on December 22, 2025, at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.

Her passing was preceded by the passing of her siblings, Bud and Patty.

Donna Benson was born on July 18, 1937, in Leavenworth, Kansas. Her parents were Harold and Frances Doughtery, of Jarbalo, Kansas.

She lived and worked most of her life in the Kansas City area, and for the last 25 years lived in Overland Park, Kansas. After she retired from her last job at Blue Cross and Shield, she focused on helping her family and taking care of her dog, cats, and house.

She is survived by daughter Angela Wendy Ramirez of Overland Park, son Kevin Scott Moore of Jakarta, Indonesia, and 6 grandchildren – Sienna, Rachel, Jessica, Carmenita, Michael, and Michelle.

A Royals and Chiefs fan since they got started in the 1960s, she was overjoyed when both teams made the playoffs last year. This year the Royals were disappointing, and she was not so sure about the Manager!

On the Chiefs, she has been very happy with Mahomes, Reid, Kelsie, and the team the past few years. A great run!

She lived a long, enjoyable life, and had no regrets about leaving this life.

I asked her what message she wanted to give her grandkids and others, and she told me, "Keep a positive attitude towards life, and give your love and kindness to others." She always tried to do that (and was usually successful!). She will be missed.
