Donna Burgin Obituary

Donna Mae Burgin, 96, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with her Savior on Friday, June 14, 2024, peacefully at Oldorf Hospice House. Donna was born on October 19, 1927, in Marion, Iowa to Mason and Lula Wells. One of six children, she grew up in Springville and Marion. Donna gave her time and talents to various local employers over the years including Collins during World War II, Baily's Milk Barn, JCPenney, Square D, West Side Maid-Rite and Rapids Vending, and to many charity causes including Days for Girls, Heritage Area Agency on Aging and the Church at Covington where she was a long-time member. Her many interests included playing Bingo in Palo, sharing coffee and conversation with friends, crocheting, reading the Bible, camping, spending time with family and watching sports â€" her favorites being the Hawkeyes and KC Chiefs (Patrick Mahomes most of all). She married Albert "Pete" Burgin on August 17, 1946, in Anamosa and raised 4 children on an acreage in Covington. Donna is survived by her children, Jerry (Ginny) Burgin, Terry (Tom) Sanders and Robert (Julie) Burgin; grandchildren, Larry Burgin, Ed Burgin, Karleen (Tadd) Jessop, Rick (Mary Jo) King, Deanna (Shane) Garbers, Rick (Jamie) Burgin, Debra (Skip) Bartek, Mike (Jessica) Burgin, Brianna (Tim) Crable, Dane Burgin, and Kayti Hare; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Opal and Alice; brothers, George, Norman and Everett; son, Steven; daughter-in-law, Denise and grandson, Jerry Burgin, Jr. Visitation for Donna will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 5 â€" 7:00 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids and again on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memorials from 10 â€" 11:00 a.m. with a service immediately following with Pastor Billy Molinari officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy at www.mercycare.org/giving or the Church at Covington, or Hillside Community Church Food Pantry.
