Donna Cubelli Obituary

Donna M. Cubelli
Donna Cubelli, beloved wife of Louis Cubelli, of 56 years passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Naugatuck on December 17, 1942 the daughter of Daniel and Wanda Leary, Donna had been a resident of Trumbull for 52 years. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury and Danbury State College, now Western Connecticut State University where she met her husband. After graduation Donna began her career as a third grade teacher in Cheshire. Later Donna taught in Naugatuck, Norwalk and Fairfield. She was a very kind and caring person, always willing to help others. Donna had many interests including reading, planting flowers, attending church services, shopping and doing all kinds of puzzles. However her favorite passion by far was playing golf. She would talk golf to anyone who would participate. Donna won many tournaments over the years including many club championships at several courses especially at Tashua Knolls in Trumbull. Donna won the State Amateur Golf Championship, came in second in the New England Amateur, and won many others too numerous to mention. She truly loved golf. In addition to her parents, Donna was predeceased by several aunts and uncles. Survivors include her husband Louis, sister-in-law Virginia Walzer and her husband Arthur of Brooklyn, NY and their family, cousin Diane McGauley and her husband Michael of Farmington, CT, and cousin William Fairbank of Helena, MT. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the entire staff of Bridgeport Hospital especially Marissa Lavin, geriatrics and palliative care, for the love, care and compassion provided to Donna during her stay. The family would also like to thank Pastor Gaylord Lemke for his many visits to the hospital and to the Black Rock Church family for their many prayers and well wishes. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Donna on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Black Rock Church, 3685 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield. Dear Louie,
I am so saddened to hear that our dear Donna has passed away. We have remained friends ever since our four years at Danbury State College from 1960 - 1964. Donna was so sweet and always laughing. Thank you for inviting me to her 80th birthday party last year. I wish I could have spent more time with her.
God bless you Lou. Donna is safe at home with our Lord.

The very first time I played golf with Donna, we hit it off and talked the whole round. I was disciplined afterwards for distracting her during play. Well, you could have fooled me. Donna was by far the most helpful and kindest golf friend. We had many laughs together. Neither of us had kids, we were both married to teachers and we got married the same year. That's enough to start a friendship. When Donna invited me to play in any type of tournament we won most of them.
I can only believe that someone is saying "Quiet on the Tee Please" as she takes that practice swing and then watches the ball go far and straight down the fairway.
Donna was also the most prolific putter I ever played with.
My sincere condolence to Lou (her at home caddie) for his loss.

I am her cousin and the same age. I remember as kids having family parties at our Gramps. She would golf on the property and sometimes try to teach me , it never worked out well. Great picture of her. William J Fairbank
