Donna Gray Obituary

Donna Lee Gray, 82, originally of Apollo, PA, passed away 5/25/2024, in Colorado Springs, CO.

Born on 2/24/1942, to Paul James Vitina & Donna Lee (Weitzel) Vitina in Pittsburgh PA. She married Wayne Leroy Gray in Sept 1963 and had two children, Adam and Donald.

Donna worked as a secretary at Cummins Diesel and as a Hazardous Materials Handler for FedEx and retired from FedEx in 1996. She was avid in volunteer work, crafts and painting as well as creating jewelry and playing Hay Day, an online game. She loved fast and loud cars, riding on the back of a motorcycle cruising through the Rocky Mountains, and never shied away from a new experience like running a jack hammer or driving a compactor. She enjoyed going to shows and the theatre. She loved camping, cruises, visiting other countries and the ocean collecting shells on the beach. She was a gardener be it flowerbeds or a high producing garden overflowing with delicious vegetables.

Donna is survived by her sons, Don and Adam, her grandchildren - Ryan, Codey, Jacob and Shelby, niece and niece's daughter - Teresa and Delaney, and three great-grandchildren, and her brother, Peter Vitina.

She was preceded in death by her parents - Paul and Donna, her sister - Sandra, her husband - Wayne, and nephew - Tim.

Donna was known and loved by many as Mum, GiGi (Grandma Gray), Aunt Dee, Auntie, Shortie and other loving nicknames. She dedicated her life to her family ensuring her boys were taken care of, especially Adam given his special needs. She cared for many of her elder relatives at the end of their journeys, made sure they were taken care of.

Donna did not want funeral services but did ask to take one last motorcycle ride across the Rockies which will be fulfilled.

Mum - Breath deep as the air is cool, fresh, crisp, and clear. You are with God. We Love You.

My name is Bill Kegg. I live in Pittsburgh, PA, and retired from Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children in June, 2007. Adam Gray was a student of mine for many years, and during that time, I was very close with him and also with his family. Adam and his parents came to our wedding in 1977. I spent many happy hours visiting Adam, Donna, Wayne, and Donald Paul at their home in Apollo, PA. My wife and I also share a fond memory of attending Donald Paul's wedding many years ago.

I would like very much to get in touch with Donald Paul. If someone who reads this message could be so kind as to give Donald Paul my email address, I would be most grateful!

Thanks,

Bill Kegg. [email protected]

Donna, was my best friend for many years. I so enjoyed our conversations about many things, our love for crafts and anything shiny that girl loved her bling, lol. She was so kind, giving of herself to anyone, she was a true true friend and I´m so glad she was mine. I will miss her laughter, her beautiful smile and so many other things.
I will always love you and miss you so much Stardust.

Donna Lee was full of life and fun. She was always ready to join in or create a good laugh. The last time we spent with Donna Lee was a cruise to Mexico with Aunt Donna, Teresa and Mark. What a great time! All we were missing was Mom and Dad and Uncle Paul.

Our love goes with you Donna Lee.

Condolences to the family. I was one of the Health Care Directors (nurse) at Legends last year and Donna was one of my favorite residents. She ask me not to resign, but understood why I did. She was always so fun and full of spunk ,and such a pleasure to chat with about her life experiences. We talked motorcycles many times since I love to ride also. I am sure she will be missed by the many lives she touched including mine.

I met Donna when she came to visit Adam at his new home in Lower Burrell. I could tell she had a way about her that made everyone around her happy. Adam and I went to Colorado before Christmas, his birthday was coming up also. Donna was so caring about the both of us. Even though Adam couldn´t see, he still had an awesome time visiting places he used go. I felt so lucky to be around her, she had a glow about her. I will always remember her, Linda

Aunt Dee was the "crazy" aunt! Always laughter when we were together. It was always an adventure and nothing was out of the imagination. Shenanigans the whole way around. She was unbelievably good to Delaney and I and let us know we were loved. She enjoyed babysitting Delaney when she was little, although I was never happy about all the glitter on the floor when they indulged in makeup. Our trips to Virginia Beach were priceless. We enjoyed cooking holiday meals, perfected a tortilla soup recipe that would rival Max & Erma's, and concocted our own version of mudslides (extra alcohol!!) She will be missed!!

I have many beloved memories with Aunt Dee but my favorite has to be her helping me do my "makeup" at my play vanity when I was little and managing to get glitter all over the kitchen floor. We laughed so hard. Another wonderful memory was her getting my mom and I hooked on Hay Day and all playing together.
