Donna Jane Hilsabeck, a dedicated daughter, wife, mom, grandma, great grandmother, and friend passed away with her family by her side peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024. Donna was known for her unwavering devotion to her husband Neil, her three children and her entire family. Donna had genuine love for all those around her.
Visitation will be held Friday morning, March 15, 2024 from 10-11 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11 AM at Furness Funeral Home in Clark. Pastor Rob Salmonson will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery with a lunch after burial back at Furness Funeral Home. On November 2, 1936, Donna Jane Olson was born to parents Mary Ann (Strauss) and Wilfred G. Olson in Stephenson, MI. She grew up in Stephenson where she attended school and graduated from high school. While in high school, she worked at the Legion Hotel in Hermanson, MI and received the Daughters of American Revolution Award for speech.
She moved to Los Angeles, CA and that is where she met Neil while he served in the US Navy. They were married in Las Vegas, NV, on April 8, 1958. While living the Navy life, they moved from place to place. They lived in Los Angeles, CA, the Philippines, San Diego, CA, Michigan, Connecticut, Charleston, SC, Guam, Spain, back to Charleston, SC, Clark, SD, Michigan and then back to Clark, SD while raising three children. One of her proudest accomplishments was receiving her LPN license in April of 1974. She kept busy as a military wife, raising the kids, teaching Sunday School in Guam and South Carolina, being a nurse and spending time with family. Her greatest joys were her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Donna was true to herself, never wavering from who she was, a straight talker with a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to everyone she encountered. Her innocent and kind-hearted nature touched the lives of many and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
In addition to being a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandma, great grandmother, and friend, Donna was a pillar of strength and support for her family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Donna Jane Hilsabeck's memory will be cherished by her family and friends, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her mom, Mary Ulmquist, her dad, Wilfred Olson, husband, Clayton Neil Hilsabeck, brothers, Kermit Olson and Kenneth (Barbara) Olson, brothers-in-law Wayne New and Dennis Deen, mother-in-law and step-father-in-law, Jeannette and Jack Stewart and brother-in-law, Harlan Hilsabeck.
Donna is survived by her children, Stephen (Charlotte) Hilsabeck, Karen (John) Arthur, Brian (Kay) Hilsabeck, her grandchildren, Emily (Dan) Richardt, James (Stephanie) Arthur, Jacob (Kelsey) Arthur, Kyle (Jimi) Hilsabeck, Megan Hilsabeck, Brandon Hilsabeck, and Kate (Nick) Kotzea, and thirteen great grandchildren.
