Donna LaVere (Renfer) Moyer Schwartz, 93, of Marion, Iowa, died after a short illness on Saturday, March 28, 2026, with her family by her side. The family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the funeral home, by Pastor Lemke. Interment will follow at Blodgett Cemetery in rural Central City, Iowa.
Donna was born the daughter of R.C. and Mildred (Shaffer) Renfer on February 26, 1933, in rural Linn County, Iowa. On July 11, 1950, Donna was united in marriage to Howard Duane Moyer in Kirksville, Missouri. After Howard’s death in 2006, Donna was united in marriage to John “Jack” Henry Schwartz on December 1, 2007.
Donna was a homemaker, a great cook, and did the books for Moyer Construction for over 30 years. She chaperoned Alburnett School activities, was a precinct worker, taught Vacation Bible School, and spent one year at Collins Radio to pay off a manure spreader!
Donna was in a card club with friends for over 50 years, loved dancing, games with her grandchildren, and jigsaw puzzles. In the summer, a dozen ears of sweet corn at a meal fed the family, with six for Donna…..! In later years she met weekly with friends for coffee, enjoyed her family, and had only one request for her obituary: don’t mention her trips to the casino, so we won’t!
Donna was a member of the United Methodist Church of Alburnett for many years until joining the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion. Upon her death, Donna became a tissue donor to benefit others.
Donna is survived and lovingly remembered by her four children, Bob Moyer of Traer, Iowa, Connie Moyer of Marion, Clif Moyer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Tim (Dianne) Moyer of Arkansas; two stepsons, Craig Schwartz of Louisiana, and Kent (Audrey) Schwartz of Ames, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Trevor (Jennifer) Noggle, Michelle (George) Fields, Becki Washington, Kristin (Eric) Stakland, Bonyta Moyer, Elizabeth (Ali) Cetiner, and Brian (Hallie) Moyer; seven step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and in-laws, Irma Moyer and Rayferd and Jane Moyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Howard in 2006 and Jack in 2017; four siblings and spouses, Clair (Maxine), Ernest, Irwin (Doris), and Anita (Harold) Crutchley; and great-granddaughter, Angelica Jo “AJ” Washington.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Donna’s memory for Camp Courageous or St. Luke’s Hospice.
