Donna Pupek

My sister Donna came to visit us in Alaska and loved it so much she decided to move in with us, that was 45 years ago. Donna continued her career as a nurse; it was never hard for her to find a job when we were transferred. We often worked opposite shifts so one of us was always home with the boys who were toddlers. Throughout the years, with Gary being gone so often, she was like a second mother. The boys would introduce her to teachers or friends as "this is my mother, Aunt Donna". Yes, I did get some strange looks. My sister was always up for anything. Whenever we would get re-assigned, she would give notice at her job, and move also. We made so many memories together it is so hard to accept she is gone. Donna was a loving member of our family and she is truly missed.

Donna was my older sister, and she came to live with us in 1981 or 1982. It started out as a visit and when it was time for her to leave, she asked "what do you think if I come live with you" and I said yes. After about a month our Mom & Dad had her all packed up, shipped her clothes to me and put her on a plane. That was 44 years ago. She was a mother to Alain & Scott and my best friend. Gary & I were in the Air Force and so whenever we were reassigned so was Donna. Being a nurse, she could get a job anywhere we went. Our favorite place was Alaska. We both like that assignment the best. Donna was a wonderful sister, she was up for anything. When I had to work and the boys had parent teacher days, Donna would go in my place. When the teachers asked who she was the boys would say "this is my Mom, Aunt Donna" I would get a phone call later that day from the teacher. Donna never had a hard time finding a job. She was easy to get along with and was well liked. She was quiet and shy at times and if she was uncomfortable about answering a question, she would look over at me and I would answer. We were a team.
Donna will be missed by many but especially her family in Idaho. She was a big part of our lives, and though she spent her last year or so in an assisted living facility, we visited often and brought her on short trips we would take as a family. I was with Donna when she passed and she went peacefully.
