Donnie “Don” Dickey, 83 of Elkhart passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Don was born on September 12, 1941 to Lester “Dwight” and Ardith Dickey in Muncie, IN. Don married the love of his life Verna M. Segraves on November 23, 1962 in Winchester, IN.
Don graduated from Union City High School in Union City, IN., where he earned 12 varsity letters in 3 sports. He furthered his education at Tri State College with a degree in civil engineering. He was the owner and operator of D.E. Dickey and Associates land surveying Company for over 11 years. He retired as a district manager from H& R Block after 23 years of service. Don was a member of Bent Oak Golf Course and was an avid golfer, he was very proud that he made 2 holes in one. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan and Notre Dame Fan. Most of all Don loved to spend time with his family entertaining by the poolside, cooking out or on the golf course.
Don is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Verna; their children, James “Jamie” (Kristin) Dickey of Fort Mitchell, KY and Christina (fiancée, Greg Weikart) Pezley of Fort Wayne, IN., grandchildren, Kayla Pezley, Joshua Dickey, Ryan Pezley, and Nicholas Pezley and great-grandson Jayden Pezley; brother, Dr. Tommy Dickey of Glendale, CA; and his nephews Todd Dickey of Oakview, CA., and David Dickey of Glendale, CA. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lester “Dwight” and Ardith (George) Lambert and his grandparents.
Visitation will from 2-4 pm on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where a memorial service will be at4 pm. Memorial donations in Don’s memory may be made to Diabetes Association www.diabetes.org or the American Cancer Society www.donate.cancer.org or Michael J.
