Donnie Weaver Obituary

Raised in Rocky Mount, Donnie's passion for music began at a young age. At just 13, he joined the "The Kays" as their lead singer and keyboardist. The band was later renamed "The O'Kaysions", best known for their 1968 gold record hit, "Girl Watcher," with Donnie as the unmistakable soulful lead voice.

While still playing in the band, Donnie graduated from N.C. State University. He began his professional life as a math teacher in Rocky Mount. He and his wife Patsy and daughter later moved to Raleigh to pursue a career as a computer programmer for CP&L and DHR.

Throughout his life, Donnie continued to write and perform music, penning more than 50 songs. His songwriting legacy extended across decades, with one of his songs featured in the 1979 TV series "Whatever Happened to the Class of '65" and another in the 2024 Hulu series "Pam & Tommy."

Donnie is survived by his daughter, Ginger Weaver Robles "GIGI", her husband Luis Robles; grandson Logan Robles; granddaughter Rachel Robles; niece Sheri McCall and her husband Phillip McCall; nephew Larry Weaver Jr., as well as several great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Truman Weaver, mother Hettie Bell Weaver, brother Larry Weaver Sr. Larry's wife Margaret Weaver, 2 nephews Tony Weaver and Randy Weaver.

Services to celebrate Donnie's life will be Monday November 24th at 2:00pm at the Wilson Shrine Club on 3102 Forest Hills Rd. SW, Wilson, NC 27893. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have shared their love.
