Donnie Jean Vannucci Whitten, born on May 10, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, in Batesville, Mississippi. Jean lived a life marked by unwavering loyalty, dedication, and hard work. As a respected manager for Stax Records in Memphis and later for Sam's Town Hotel and Casino in Tunica, she made significant contributions to the music and hospitality industries, demonstrating her remarkable capability to take care of business with grace and professionalism.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM at Wells Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to attend this celebration and remembrance Jean’s life.
Throughout her life, Jean was known for her nurturing spirit. She was not only devoted to her family but also became a mother figure to many who were fortunate enough to know her. Jean and her husband, Carl M. Whitten, shared just seven days shy of 65 years of marriage, embodying the essence of a hardworking partnership. Together, they created a home filled with warmth and love, making them a cornerstone of their family.
Jean's proudest accomplishments include raising her children and grandchildren, instilling in them the values of kindness, compassion, and resilience. Her love for music and cooking enriched her family's lives, and she cherished every moment spent creating lasting memories with them. Vacation for Jean was never about far-off destinations; her true sanctuary was always her home.
She is survived by her loving husband, Carl of Hernando; her daughter, Ladonna Presgrove of Batesville; her sister, Rikki Johnson (Larry) of Hernando; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry the legacy of her love and strength forward.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Elmore Vannucci, Jr. and Donnie Bell Keith Vannucci, her children; Carl Wayne Whitten and Joann Talley, as well as her brother, Fred Wayne Vannucci. Their memories will be honored as part of her enduring spirit.
Donnie Jean Vannucci Whitten will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose legacy of dedication and love will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
