Dora Catherine Harper Conner, 91, was welcomed into the arms of the Father on Sunday night, December 14 after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a resident of the Highpoint at Fort Mill memory care center. Mrs. Conner was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Clyde M. Conner; her parents, George Harper and Margaret Hauser Harper; nine siblings (Pauline Harper, Hazel Sweet, Alta Warner, Juanita Carter, Bill Harper, Herbert Harper, James Harper, Carl Harper and Neal Harper; and a daughter-in-law, Terre Crosslin Conner (Dennis). She is survived by her two children, Dennis Conner (Sherie), of Fort Mill, SC, and Jane Thacker (Kelis) of Clayton, MO; four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Conner was beloved by all who knew her. Wherever she lived, her neighbors considered her the neighborhood grandma; new neighbors were always welcomed with a personal visit and gifted with a pie or cake. All her nieces and nephews considered her their favorite aunt. She was extroverted and gracious, which endeared her to virtually everyone she met. Besides her faith, her family was the most important thing in her life. She was a completely devoted wife, a loving and supportive mother, and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. Until recent years when her cognitive issues began to increase, all her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews would receive a card on their birthdays. But as much as she loved her family, her faith was the north star of her life. Before Alzheimer’s had fully taken its toll, she studied her Bible every day; most often it was the last thing she did at night before closing her eyes. She had a heart of compassion for those who were overlooked and hurting and had a gift for encouraging others with eloquently written cards. Mrs. Conner was also possessed of a servant heart and was always looking beyond herself to the needs of others. The bulk of her career was spent as an executive secretary to the presidents of a broadcasting company and a construction company. Following that she was the owner and operator of Carolina Christian Bookstore in Yadkinville until she retired.

Proverbs 31:28 says of the woman of noble character that “her children arise and call her blessed.” Indeed, her children do call her blessed for the way that she blessed their lives and the lives of so many others.

A memorial service is scheduled for December 30 at 2:00 pm (visitation at 1:30 pm) at the Yadkinville Church of Christ, 617 W. Main St., Yadkinville, NC.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to Carolina Bible Camp, PO Box 1234, Mocksville, NC 27028.
