Dora Galvan Obituary
Dora is survived by her daughter and son in law, Marisa and Tim Protheroe, beloved grandchildren, Jacqueline Naranjo and Dexter Joaquin Protheroe, and great grandchildren, Jaylyn and Hilary Fiala. She leaves her sisters, Loulina Castillo, Janie Morin and Mary Wiggins, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, great grandchildren and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joaquin Medina Galvan, daughter, Denise Galvan Naranjo, and grandson, Jason Eli Fiala.
Dora graduated in 1959 from Karnes City High School. She moved to San Antonio soon after to pursue a career as a beautician but followed her heart and love interest to become a wife on November 26, 1970, and mother in January 1963. Her career involved 10+ years in the cable industry and 20+ years with QVC Home Shopping Network.
Dora was known for her cooking. It brought her great joy to feed the masses. Her sense of humor was unique, and her honesty was not for the fainthearted. She had an untiring commitment to help others in their time of need; and she never gave up hope that people could change despite their circumstances. She loved a challenge and was fearlessly independent. Despite her health she continued to mow her yard and work tirelessly in her garden till the very end.
Our fondest memories of mom will be her love for the beach, walking the shores endlessly collecting sand dollars, gardening and enjoying classics from George Jones to Rod Stewart. We will all miss her in a special way, and she will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5th at Mission Park North at 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive, San Antonio, Texas, 78230 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00pm. Mass will be Friday, December 6th at St. Matthew's Catholic Church at 10703 Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas, 78230 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Salvation Army at Donate to The Salvation Army in Dora's memory.
