Dora Ann Huggins Cantey, age 85, of Marion passed away peacefully Friday, April 21, 2023, at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville, surrounded by her loving family.
Dora was born July 6, 1937, in Sumter, SC to the late James Alden Huggins and Ruth Geddings Huggins. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Fred Henry Cantey, Sr.; her son, Mike Cantey; and her sister, Mary Ruth Mims.
Dora was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marion. She worked for Wright Table Company for 22 years and then started her own catering business. She loved to cook, and everyone loved her homemade biscuits. In Dora's free time, she enjoyed doing cross stitch, arranging flowers, and making Christmas bows. Dora was a sweet lady, a devoted wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Those left behind to cherish Dora's memory are three sons, Freddy Cantey, Jr. (Pat), Ed Cantey (Jennifer), and Jerry Cantey; seven grandsons, Brad, Christopher, Scott (Sherry), Ryan, Travis (Katya), Billy, and Wyatt; one brother, Jimmy Huggins (Beth).
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 23, 2023, in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. A funeral service to celebrate Dora's life will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Rob Warren officiating. Interment will follow the service at Glenwood Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers will be Brad Cantey, Scott Cantey, Wyatt Cantey, Eddie Shufford, Gary Stepp, and Mike McCoy.
