PATTERSON, DORA A. – AGE 86 Dora A. Patterson, age 86, of Clarks Hill, died at 11:18 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at St. Elizabeth East. Born on March 7, 1927 in Owosso, MI, she was the daughter of the late Clyde D. Widener & Frances Atwood Widener. Dora was a 1946 graduate of Jefferson High School. She married John H. "Curly" Patterson on September 9, 1946 in Lafayette at Congress Street United Methodist Church and he preceded her in death on October 15, 1990. When Dora was younger she had been in the circus with Cole Brothers & Hagenbach for many years. She was the owner and operator of Mud Hole Ceramic Shop in West Point. She also raised leader dogs. Dora was a member of West Point United Methodist Church, past deputy of the Order of the Eastern Star Shawnee #523, past grand helper for the Indiana Order of Rainbow for Girls, past president of Lafayette Home Economics Club, past president of West Point Home Economics Club and a member of the Dafodillies Band and Kitchen Band. Surviving are two daughters: Linda Patterson of Lafayette and Kathy Monjon (husb: Gary) of Clarks Hill, 7 grandchildren, Michelle (Wes) Goodman, Laura (Darin) Porter, Jennifer (John) Gipson, Leslie (Mike) Summerfield, Erica Monjon, Erin (Chad) Verhey, and Lyndsi (Matt) Hindsley, 18 great-grandchildren, and one expected. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson Haydon. Friends may call Thursday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at West Point Church followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., and a 10:45 a.m. Eastern Star memorial service at West Point United Methodist Church, 4923 Monroe Street, West Point, IN. Interment at West Point Cemetery. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care. Memorial contributions may be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind, 1039 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307-3115. It's been over 50 years since our life journeys diverged. Yet, I shall long remember the many kindnesses, energy, and enthusiasm for life that defined Dora. It was my privilege to have been one of the many, many people whose spirits were lifted and lives brightened by her caring soul.
