Doreen Hazard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by T.J. Fluehr Funeral Home on Dec. 31, 2025.
Doreen M. Hazard, of Philadelphia, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the age of 71.

Doreen was a woman whose life was defined not by grand gestures, but by quiet strength, deep love, and an appreciation for the simple things that truly matter.

Doreen faced more challenges than most, battling cancer many times throughout her life. It was a difficult road with many surgeries, and yet she rarely complained. Even in the hardest times, she found reasons to be thankful. Doreen never needed much to be happy. She found joy in being with those she cared about. In her later years, when the effects of cancer made it difficult for her to leave her home, she especially loved being visited. Those visits meant the world to her, and she appreciated every call, every card, and every kind gesture.

One of the jobs she loved most was working in the shoe department at JCPenney at Franklin Mills Mall. It wasn't just a job to her-it was something special because her mother, Marion, worked the fitting room at the same time. Getting to work side by side with her mom brought her joy, and it speaks volumes about how deeply family meant to her.

Doreen was a devoted daughter. In her mother Marion's later years, Doreen lovingly cared for her, offering the same kindness and dedication that she gave so freely throughout her life. That devotion reflected who Doreen was at her core-selfless, loyal, and endlessly loving and caring.

She was also a loving wife to her husband, Skip. Together they shared many happy memories, especially their trips to Atlantic City. Sundays were particularly special to Doreen-running errands with Skip, enjoying each other's company, and ending the day with a meal at one of their favorite restaurants, Kelly's. Those simple routines were moments she cherished.

Doreen shared a special bond with her younger sister Karen and was always happy when spending time with her. She was also very close to her brother-in-law John. Karen and John were always there for Doreen-offering steady support over the years.

She was someone who never forgot a family birthday and took great care in choosing the perfect card for each person. Her thoughtfulness made people feel remembered and loved. Gratitude came naturally to her, and she was sincerely thankful for every kindness shown to her.

Family gatherings were close to Doreen's heart. She especially loved gatherings for birthdays and holidays. Seeing the family together was one of her greatest joys. She adored her nephew John, her niece Nikki, and her great nieces and nephews, and she took so much happiness in watching the kids grow up.

Doreen's life reminds us that happiness doesn't come from having more, but from being grateful for what you have. She showed us how to live with gratitude, how to care for others without expecting anything in return, and how to find joy in everyday moments.

Beloved wife of Oliver P. "Skip" Hazard, III; loving sister of Karen (John) Longo; cherished aunt of Nicole (Matthew) Regan and John (Jessica van Baal) Longo and great aunt of Ryan, Daniel, Harper, John, Cierra and Corinne. Doreen is also survived by her stepchildren, Christine Cerquetelli (the late Dino), Gregory (Christine) Hazard and Erica (Joseph) Aaron and many step grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 5 PM until 7 PM at the T.J. Fluehr Funeral Home, 11010 Knights Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154, followed by her Funeral Service at 7 PM. Interment private.
