Doreen May Johnson, age 101, of Bloomfield Hills (formerly of Royal Oak), passed away on October 29, 2025.
Born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, to John and Ella Vincent on September 18, 1924, Doreen moved to the United States at a young age with her parents. The family settled in Madison Heights, where she spent her childhood and later graduated from Madison Heights High School.
On June 9, 1945, Doreen married the love of her life, Elmer. Together, they made their home in Royal Oak, where they shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage.
Doreen was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family and home. She was a talented baker whose kitchen was always filled with warmth and the sweet aroma of something delicious in the oven. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery, creating many beautiful handmade treasures over the years. An avid reader, she always had a good book close by.
In her younger days, Doreen was active in church life-first at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Detroit and later at Huntington Woods Lutheran Church-where her kindness and faith were evident to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished for her gentle spirit, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
Doreen will be remembered as the beloved wife of the late Elmer. Loving mother of Mark (Marcia) Johnson and Marsha (James) Pernack. Proud grandmother of Jamie, Matthew, Erik, Clinton, Amanda, and Zachary; and great-grandmother of Cameron, Carter, Clair, Sam, Anna, Lily, Nathan, Alina, and Wes.
Visitation for Doreen will be held on Wednesday, November 5, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service, 2:00 p.m., at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak.
