Dorethea Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gregory B. Levett and Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory - South DeKalb Chapel on Aug. 12, 2025.
With hearts full of love and faith, we celebrate the life of Mother Dorethea Daye Evans, a devoted wife, cherished mother, and faithful servant of the Lord, who was called home to be with Jesus on August 7, 2025, at the blessed age of 90 years old. Born on January 8, 1935, in Soperton, Georgia, Mother Evans dedicated her life to loving God, caring for her family, and serving others. She graduated from Beaumont School of Vocational Nursing in September 1954, her work as a nurse was far more than a profession for her, it was a ministry. Through gentle hands, a listening heart, and unwavering compassion, she radiated the love of Christ to every patient that she cared for. Mother Evans was the faithful and loving wife of the late Bishop Dr. Robert L. Evans, Sr., and a nurturing mother to Micshall Patrick, Dorethea Pippen, Angela Afflick (Dr. Sterling), Robin Taylor, Kathy Stallings, and the late Robert L. Evans, Jr. (Jeminah). She filled her home with prayer, joy, and encouragement, teaching her family to walk in faith and trust in God's promises. She was a member of The Church of Christ at Bouldercrest and also attended First Christian Episcopal Church, where she served joyfully on the Mother Board. Mother Evans was an active resident in her community and served as Vice President and Secretary of the Thomasville Civic League. Mother Evans is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Micheal Pippen (Deanna), Kimberly Wilson (Sean), Tierra Rice (Joel), Dana Cooper (Robert), Ronnie Patrick, Nicole Porter, Donnie Stallings (Toni), Dominique Stallings, Anita Jones (Wymon), Atiyyah Evans-Hightower (Brian), Ibn Evans, and Brandon Afflick; along with 27 great-grandchildren. Also, she is survived by her sisters-in-laws, Mother Jonell Walker and Dorothy Stanley. The family extends a special thank you to Dorethea Pippen (Dot) and Ronnie Patrick for their daily care and support of Mother Evans. She was welcomed into heaven's gates by her husband Bishop Dr. Robert Evans Sr., her mother Lerona Stanley; her sister Annie James Day; her father, James Day; her beloved stepfather, J.D. Stanley; her brother, Minister Russell Stanley; her son Robert Evans Jr.; grandson Samuel Pinder, Jr.,; and many more dear relatives & friends who have gone on before her in Christ. We rejoice in knowing that Mother Evans has "fought the good fight, finished her race, and kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7). Her long life was a testimony to God's grace, and her legacy of love will continue to endure in the hearts of all who knew her.

Mrs. Dorethea always had a lovely smile. No matter when I´d see her, she´d always have that smile that made me feel happy to stop by and to say hello. And her sense of humor was always unexpected and you laughed cause you didn´t expect it. Mrs. Dorethea was a good neighbor, a great worker, my friend and I will truly miss her quiet, regal presence.
