In the early afternoon of January 26th 2026 Doris Deborah Barber passed away peacefully due to natural causes in Bluffton South Carolina. She was born in New York City in 1925 to Maria and Herman Heller.
Doris had a successful and rewarding career working for the federal government in Virginia. Most of her service was with the Department of Interior/National Park Service that spanned over twenty years.
Doris was a devout Christian and a member of the local churches wherever she lived. She also was a very active member of the Eastern Star. The ladies equivalent to the Freemasons. Her Christian beliefs were a large part of her personal life as well. Doris was a strong supporter of animal shelters, children’s hospitals and Native American charities. She also supported US military members with contributions to Veterans of Foreign Wars and Wounded Warriors.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Fred and her mother Maria. She is survived by her sons Wayne and Hal, her daughter Denise, her brother Richard, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Monday February 2nd 2026 at 2 PM at Maye River Baptist Church in Bluffton South Carolina.
