Doris Barnhart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wetzel Funeral Home - Hanover on Mar. 16, 2026.
Doris L. (Laughman) Barnhart, 96, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Genesis Healthcare Gettysburg Center. She was the loving wife of Clair C. Barnhart, with whom she shared an incredible 77 years of marriage.

Born October 8, 1929, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Emory E. and Roxie H. (Zumbrum) Laughman.

Doris was born and raised in Hanover and was a proud member of the Eichelberger High School Class of 1947. In 1948, she married the love of her life, Clair, and together they built a wonderful life centered around family, faith, and shared adventures.

Throughout her working years, Doris was employed at Hanover Shoe Farms, Revonah Spinning Mills, and the Hanover Evening Sun. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished time spent with her family.

Doris and Clair shared a love for travel and adventure. They enjoyed dancing together with the Hanover Pacers and spent many happy years camping throughout the country with the Hi-ya-All Camping Group. Doris was also a longtime member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Westminster, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Clair C. Barnhart; her sons, Steven Barnhart and his wife Beverly, Wayne Barnhart and his wife Karen, and Kevin Barnhart and his wife JoAnn; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her sisters, Effie Fox and her husband Charles, Maretta Fox, and Cass Messinger and her husband Ralph.

A service to celebrate Doris's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA, with Rev. Susan C. Roy officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Barnhart, Wayne Barnhart, Brandon Barnhart, Austin Barnhart, Eric Barnhart, Travis Barnhart, Owen Barnhart, and Griffin Barnhart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
