Doris Brown Munoz, a devoted wife, mother, and beloved community figure, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the age of 87. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.
Born on June 28, 1938, in Rio Grande City, Texas, Doris was the cherished daughter of the late William M. Brown and Gertrudis Gomez Brown. She was a lifelong resident of Rio Grande City, where she was raised and dedicated her life to service and family.
Doris’s memory is forever entwined with her adored husband, Ruben Muñoz, who preceded her in death in 2024.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, William and Gertrudis Brown, and her beloved sons, Roberto Muñoz, Ruben Muñoz Jr., Rolando Muñoz, and Romeo Muñoz. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children: Rodolfo Muñoz, Rebecca Muñoz, and Rosabel Muñoz.
Doris was our dearly loved wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, niece, and friend. Her unwavering strength and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her loving siblings.
Doris dedicated her professional life to caring for others. She served the community as a School Nurse for numerous years in the Rio Grande City School District, where her compassion and care touched the lives of hundreds of students. Prior to this, she also worked diligently as a nurse at Starr County Memorial Hospital. She was known for caring for everyone she met, extending her boundless compassion not only to her patients and students but also to her many dear friends.
Beyond her commitment to nursing, Doris cultivated a rich life filled with diverse passions. She was an avid coin collector and had a fierce love for football, never missing a Dallas Cowboys game. Her home was a testament to her gentle spirit, filled with the beauty of her gardening. Not a day went by where Doris didn't talk about how much her children and family meant to her. Above all else, she lived every day prioritizing her faith and family. She found strength and comfort in prayer, and her devotion to her loved ones defined her existence. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and love and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
