Pugh Funeral Home - AsheboroDoris Owen Carter, previously of Asheboro, passed away Friday March 6, 2026, at Trinity Village in Hickory at the age of 93. Doris was born in Seagrove on June 27, 1932, spent the majority of her life in Asheboro, and moved to Hickory in 2021 to be closer to family. She was preceded in death by her mother Edna Owen, father Charlie Owen, sister Charlene Kearns, brother Larry Owen, and her husband of 42 years, Thomas Carter. She is survived by her sons, Mike Carter of Valdese and Jimmy Carter of Smithfield, VA, as well as four grandchildren, William Carter of Macon, GA, Sabrina Carter of Charlottesville, VA, Martha Carter of Denver, CO, and Elizabeth Carter Adams of Morganton. Her children and grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was a member of Central Falls United Methodist Church and attended regularly for over 40 years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, volunteering time with her church community, and cooking. Doris was one of the nicest people and never had ill will toward anyone. She had a playful and lighthearted demeanor that brought joy and laughter to everyone around her. Doris will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her and loving her.
A funeral service and visitation will be held for Mrs. Carter on Saturday March 21, 2026, at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro 437 Sunset Ave. Asheboro NC 27203. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00pm with the funeral service following at 1:00pm the Glenn “Mac” Pugh Chapel. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park 4538 US Highway 220 Bus N, Asheboro, NC 27203.
