Doris Elder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers from Mar. 2 to Mar. 3, 2022.
The family of Doris Elder will celebrate her life of 88 years at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 4, 2022, at the Gaines County Memorial Cemetery. Her family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 03, 2022, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. She passed on Monday, February 28, 2022.

On September 4, 1933, Doris was born to Rubble and Gladys Gressett in Gouldbusk, TX. She married Houston Elder on February 14, 1950 in the home of Rev. Ross and Ella Mae Anderson, Houston's sister.

She had a hard childhood but after her marriage, she and Houston made a loving family environment for their three children Susan, Buffy, and Donny. Doris accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and proceeded to raise their children in the love and knowledge of God. She was active in all areas of the local church. Doris was an excellent seamstress, and she loved to garden and paint. With these gifts, she provided a beautiful home for her family. She was a major part of her grandchildren's lives. Her strength and love were a security for her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Houston Elder; their children, Donny Elder, Susan (Gary) Keyton, Buffy (Mike) Pharaoh; grandchildren, James Keyton, Robert Keyton, Stefanie (Tye) Graham, Karis (Brandon) Henry, Rachel Pharaoh; great-grandchildren, Ella Graham, Kamber Henry, JJ Keyton, Brasher Henry, Sofia Graham, Chase Keyton, Michael Keyton, and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rubble and Glayds Gressett; siblings, Dean, Maxine, Betty, and Sharon.
