Doris Faison Obituary

Published by A.A. Rayner & Sons Modern Funeral Service - Chicago from Dec. 6 to Dec. 7, 2010.
Doris Payne Bridge Faison was born July 15, 1926 to the union of Frank and Sarah Payne. She was the third of five children; Frank, Lois and Margrett all preceded her in death. Doris was born in DeQueen, ARK. Doris attended school in Oklahoma, later she moved to Chicago, IL. While in Chicago she was employed with several companies: Playboy, McCormick Place, Chicago Art Institute, Lawson Y.M.C.A., Cook County Hospital and the Chicago Federation Anti Hunger. Doris accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church for many years. Doris joined West Englewood United Methodist Church in 1980. While at West Englewood Doris served in many capacities such as the Usher Board, lay leader and she was a Certified Lay Speaker. Most importantly Doris had a heart for the less fortunate and her work showed it. Doris retired early to take care of her husband but she still had time to start her own food pantry in Calumet City, IL. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: daughter, Pamela (James) Woodfork; sister Vivian Phillips of Gary, IN; special nieces Barbara L. Oliver (Marshay and Daniel aka "Raspunin"), Alva Jeanne Oliver, LaMonica Payne, Angila M. Faison, Lyman L. Oliver (nephew); special Big Sister, Linnie Dixson and Goddaughter Hattie R. Green.
