Doris Gluck

Doris Wright Gluck (97) Mercersburg, PA passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday,

February 26, 2026. Born October 29, 1928 in Robertsdale, PA in Fulton County. She was one of

seven children born to the late Ivan and Wealthy Wright.

Doris graduated as Salutatorian from Taylor Township High School in Hustontown, PA in 1946.

She married Carl William Gluck on December 29, 1950. Together they raised two children,

Cindy and Larry. She spent her career years as secretary for the Tuscarora School District, first

at Montgomery Elementary and later at Mercersburg Elementary.

Doris delivered meals for Meals on Wheels together with her husband for almost 30 years.

During the 1960's, she served as a co-leader for her son's cub scout troop. She was a member of

Trinity United Church of Christ in Mercersburg where she volunteered for 40 years with the

Sunday School program. She especially enjoyed playing the piano and would often provide

accompaniment during the children's program. She was a member of the Women's Card Club of

Mercersburg from 1946 to 2012 as well as the couples card group. She enjoyed quilting, and she

was proud to share her quilts with family and friends. She and Carl danced with both the Mary

Smith Dance Group and Penn-Mar dance Club. She loved her visits with family in South

Carolina, Massachusetts, New York City, San Francisco, Brazil and at the beach. Her family

especially loved her homemade sand tarts, ham salad, pickles, fudge and chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Ann Stead (William) of Chambersburg, PA and her son,

Dr. W. Larry Gluck (Diane) of Greenville, SC, her two granddaughters, Kimberly Wallner and

Jennifer Handy (Chris), four great-grandchildren (Graham and Quinn Wallner and Lucy and

Eliza Handy), two brothers (William and Robert Wright) and twenty-two nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Carl W. Gluck, her parents Ivan

and Wealthy Wright, three brothers (Edwin, Richard and Rex Wright) and her sister (Donna

Statler).

Funeral arrangements are being made by the Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg. Funeral

services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 7th at Trinity United Church of Christ

with Pastor Hughes officiating. Visitation will be held at the church at 10:00 AM immediately

prior to the service. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the church

social hall.
