Doris Hayes, 88, of Pilot Grove, passed away Saturday, December 10th, 2022 at Katy Manor.
She was born on March 8th, 1934, in Bunceton, MO, the oldest daughter of Henry and Ethel (Smith) Frieling.
Doris married Don Shumate on November 26, 1955 and he preceded her in death on May 8, 1976. She later married Earl Hayes on August 13, 1977 at the Pilot Grove Community Church and he preceded her in death on October 30, 2020.
She was a graduate of Bunceton High School and was a member of the Pilot Grove Community Church where she played the organ. After high school Doris worked as a bookkeeper in Kansas City at the United Missouri Bank, and later worked for Citizens Bank in Pilot Grove for many years. Doris enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting, and playing the piano at Katy Manor.
Survivors include two step-children, Jeanne Foster (Bill), of Conway, AR, Tracy Hayes (Nancy) of Phoenix AZ; two granddaughters, Kelsey Shumate and Lindsey Shumate both of Columbia, MO; one sister, Brenda Callison of Bunceton, MO, a daughter-in-law, Rose Shumate of Kansas City, MO; two great-granddaughters, and eleven step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to both of her husbands she was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Shumate on June 30, 2021.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Meisenheimer-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Pilot Grove. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Lone Elm. Casket bearers will be Tracy Hayes, Alex Wright, Brent Kahle, Larry Smith, Darryl Hurt, and Billy Dean Hurt. Honorary casket bearers will be Bill Foster, Ray Quick, Cheryl Kahle, and Ron Hurt. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Donor's Choice.
