Doris Marie Heath, 89, passed away on December 8th, the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception, with her family by her side. She succumbed to the illness she so bravely battled for eight years and showed us what a true fighter was. Doris was born in Wooster, OH, on June 14th, 1927, to Walter & Bertha Herpel Buchholz. She always said that her birthday, on June 14th, was the reason everyone flew the American flag. She graduated from Wooster High School in 1945 and then Doris was on her way. She began her career working at Snyder Studio in Wooster where she became an avid photographer. For many years, she was as secretary for Ted Evans, manager of the local radio station in Wooster. She relocated to Detroit, MI, to be near her sister, Polly, and family. In Detroit, she worked as a secretary at Walter O. (Spike) Briggs stadium with the Detroit Tigers. Doris loved to ski and sail and met the love of her life, Sheldon (Ted) Heath, at the St. Clair Sail Club. Together they sailed the Great Lakes, where they always enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Doris served as president of the Christ Child Society Detroit chapter and was instrumental in starting the Christ Child Society chapter in Naples with her vast experience with the Detroit chapter. She was always dedicated to helping others. Doris & Ted moved to Midland, MI after Ted retired. They spent many weekends at the family cottage on Higgins Lake. Doris took up basket weaving and won many awards for her craft. She enjoyed showing others how to weave baskets and many friends and family happily received them as gifts. She was both gifted and a gift to all. In 1991, Doris & Ted relocated to Naples, FL. She was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Ladies of Charity, Arimatheas, Council of Catholic Women, Naples Christ Child Society, and Tides. She was also a member of Imperial Golf Club. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, in 1997; her parents; brother, Carl; sisters, Catherine Guenther, Emma Maxwell, Mary Ann Hamm and Virginia Buchholz. She is survived by her brother, Adrian, Mansfield, OH; sister, Polly Dodenhoff, Wooster, OH; Janet Kramarz, Chesterland, OH, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic church on Thursday, December 15, 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105. www.avowcares.org
